We have had multiple reports of an individual targeting registered offenders in a new scam. This individual has spoofed (making a phone call seem like it's coming from a specific phone number) the Lyon County Emergency Communications Center number, and informed these offenders that they have missed either their DNA swab or other requirements. The individual then lets the offender know that they have a warrant out for their arrest and demands payment. This individual is using publicly available information to make their "victims" think they are an actual law enforcement officer.

This is your reminder that we will never inform you of a warrant over the telephone, we will never demand payment of the warrant over the phone, and if they ask for cryptocurrency or gift cards to pay off the warrant that is 100% a scam. If you are contacted by a phone number claiming to be Lyon County Emergency Communications Center or the Sheriff's Office, and they are requesting payment. Hang up and contact the phone numbers directly.

Scams, and the people orchestrating scams, are always evolving. It is important to keep on top of the new trends and to help educate your family members for the signs of scams.
If you have any questions please contact Lyon County Dispatch at 620-343-4225 and request to speak to a deputy.
